Renowned Kennebunkport Golf Professional and Syndicated Radio Host to Discuss New Book

Portland, Maine – (Sept. 25, 2017) – On Saturday, October 7, Ken Raynor and Michael Patrick Shiels will discuss their new book, “I Call Him ‘Mr. President’: Stories of Golf, Fishing, and Life with My Friend George H.W. Bush,” with Foreword by Barbara Bush, at a ticketed reception at 1 pm at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre in Arundel, Maine.

Ken Raynor, head professional at Cape Arundel Golf Club for 38 years, tells the story of how President George H.W. Bush befriended him during Bush’s annual summer sabbatical to seaside Kennebunkport, Maine. Raynor’s personal relationship with Bush led him to experience everything from fishing trips to the wilds of Newfoundland to countless outings on the golf course, including Bush’s last as commander in chief.
The book captures the life lessons Raynor gained from this friendship that has continued to develop over decades during golf outings that have ranged from Maine to Augusta National to the White House putting green, international fishing trips, retreats at Camp David, flying in Marine One, and many other unforgettable experiences.
Raynor is donating book proceeds to two of his favorite local charities: Kennebunkport Conservation Trust and Gary’s House. He is a former board member of the Trust and is a founding member of the George H.W. Bush Celebrity Golf Classic, which benefits Gary’s House, a hospitality program run by Mercy Hospital.
Co-hosted by the Trust and Gary’s House, the event at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre on October 7 will include a social hour with authors signing books from 1 to 2 pm, followed by an interview and audience question and answer segment from 2 to 3 pm. Limited tickets can be purchased here or by calling 207-229-3866.
