Primary Care Update

Mercy is approaching a century of service to the greater Portland area. To continue to provide the care people want and need in the next century, we must continuously be reinventing ourselves. Just as we have evolved from a 25-bed hospital founded during the flu pandemic of 1918 into a comprehensive health delivery system serving patients across southern Maine, we must always be looking forward.
As we make plans to consolidate Mercy services at the Fore River campus in 2018, we are also taking steps to ensure that Mercy is designed to deliver care in the most efficient manner possible during a time of great change and declining reimbursements in healthcare. As a result, we asked the question, “what does Mercy look like in the next 100 years?”
It is our goal to supplement our primary care providers with a wider array of services to provide a more convenient and complete primary care experience to patients. In order to achieve this, we have to have larger primary care practice locations.  In this model, patients can expect easier access to clinical/ diagnostic services and embedded behavioral health services.  In addition, this helps us achieve another objective to develop an open access model of care due to the size and depth of services at each location.
Today we are announcing that a few of our primary care practices will be relocating over the next few months in order to create the model outlined above.  It is important to note that the number of primary care providers in our practices is not changing, just the locations.
    • Standish Family Practice will be relocating to Windham Family Practice.
    • Fore River Family Practice will be relocating to Portland Internal Medicine.
    • Falmouth Internal Medicine will be relocating Yarmouth Primary Care.
We do not expect any interruption to patient care during this process, and will be working with the different locations to ensure all patients are notified of these changes well in advance. Patients, of course, may stay with their dedicated Mercy provider. For questions or concerns, please contact your primary care provider or contact a Mercy representative at (207)-879-3000.
