Osteoporosis refers to the bone loss that occurs throughout a person's life, particularly after the age of 30. While each person's risk factors are different, women who have reached menopause are particularly vulnerable, as bone-building estrogen lowers dramatically and bone loss speeds up even more.
The good news is, osteoporosis is not inevitable - and can even be prevented in many cases.
Mercy offers patients diagnosed with osteoporosis and chronic back pain excellent interventional radiology health care services, including vertebroplasty to treat compression fractures in the spine.
If you're concerned about your particular risk factors and prevention strategies, contact us today.
