Birth Journey Preparation

• Series of 5 Classes
• Day Workshop

Childbirth Education Classes are offered throughout the year at Mercy.  Classes cover all aspects of labor and birth, including:

• changes during pregnancy
• relaxation techniques
• hydrotherapy, Jacuzzi tub
• breathing exercises and massage
• medication options & epidurals
• Cesarean birth
• birth plans
• support person's role
• overview of baby care
• choosing a pediatrician
• going home with your baby

After delivery, you can attend "Reunion Night" along with other new parents from your childbirth class to meet all the new babies.

All classes are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with each session lasting five weeks. We also offer a one day condensed class on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Safe Starts
Learn Pediatric Basic Life Support (CPR) and the Heimlich Maneuver. The class also includes information about infant and child indoor and outdoor safety.

The Breast Connection
Breastfeeding is one of the most important things you can do for your baby, but it doesn't necessarily come naturally. In this class, our skilled Birthplace nurses will share techniques and helpful tips.

Nurture Your Joy
Learn how to care for and enjoy your new baby with confidence.

For Siblings

• New Baby through a Child's Eyes
  To help siblings prepare for a new sister or brother, we offer a 90-minute evening class featuring a video ("Hey What About Me?") as well as tips for parents and instruction in baby care. Includes a tour of The Birthplace.
  • For siblings and parents
• A Child's Preparation for Attending Birth
  For siblings aged 5+ who will be attending the birth, we offer an additional session that explains the process of childbirth, along with a movie showing labor and birth (this class is scheduled on an individual basis).
  • For siblings, their support person, and parents
