Not only are we the most experienced gentle birthing facility in Maine, we have all the latest technology for a safe and satisfying birth experience. Our dedicated staff and state-of-the-art facilities include:

• highly skilled nurses, many with advanced certification in obstetrics, who will stay with you to help you give birth;
• trained anesthesiologists to provide whatever level of pain management you need, including epidurals;
• pediatricians on call 24 hours a day to assist with any newborn needs; and
• an operating room devoted to emergency care right in The Birthplace; if a C-section is required, we are ready - although we're proud to point out that our C-section rate is well below Maine's average

A room of your own
By experiencing labor, delivery, recovery and post-birth care in your own private room, you can get to know your new baby right away, without the interruption of moving from one room to another. Dads are welcome to spend the night in the room with you - and you can even set your own visiting hours.

We'll work with you to make labor less work
Because labor is a different experience for every woman, we offer a variety of choices to help ease contractions and facilitate the experience. Many women in labor find comfort in one of our whirlpool baths, where the warm, bubbling waters help the body relax - meaning you experience less pain, faster dilation, and a shorter labor.

Underwater delivery: Another Birthplace innovation
If a warm water bath relaxes and eases aching muscles and calms stressful feelings, then why not consider giving birth in a tub filled with warm water? While not feasible for every woman and baby, The Birthplace does offer the option of using a special birthing tub - we'll help you decide if underwater delivery is an option for you.
