The following lectures will be held at Mercy Physical Therapy Center, 1364 Congress Street, Portland (Westgate Shopping Center) from every Thursday in October from 6:00 -7:00. They are FREE. We hope you will join us!
October 1 Women's Health-come see how our highly trained physical therapists can help women with a wide variety of dysfunctions. You'd be surprised how much physical therapy can help alleviate your pregnancy-related back pain or manage your lymphedema after breast surgery. Therapists from Mercy Lymphedema Treatment Center and Mercy Physical Therapy Center, all with special certifications in lymphedema management and pre-natal and post-partum care, will present the lecture and answer all your questions.
October 8 Osteoporosis-what are the signs and symptoms of osteoporosis and what can you do about it? Join us for an overview of osteoporosis and ways you can work with your physical therapist and doctor to help manage this condition and/or reduce your risk of acquiring it. Bill Anderson, DPT, a geriatric specialist from VNA Home Health & Hospice, will discuss the latest treatments and answer all your questions.
October 15 Neck and Back Pain-do you know anyone with neck or back pain? This lecture will explain many of the reasons back and neck pain occur. We will also give an overview of the spine, including posture and sources of back and neck problems. The therapist leading this discussion is certified in both McKenzie and Maitland techniques, which are evidence based therapies proved to relieve back and neck pain.
October 22 Balance 101-our physical therapists will speak about the importance of balance in the prevention of falls and maintaining an adequate level of functional mobility. Following the educational portion of the session, participants will have the opportunity to have their balance and posture assessed by our staff. If you have concerns or a fear of falling, you will benefit from the informative presentation.
October 29 Joint Replacement-have you considered joint replacement surgery or had a joint replaced and need physical rehabilitation? Come and see how our staff of physical therapists use the latest techniques to restore you to your highest level of function. Dr. Stephen Kelly, from Orthopedic Associates, will discuss the surgical procedure for hip and knee replacements.
