The DAISY Award is a nationwide program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses everyday. Mercy Hospital is proud to be the first Maine DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing one of our nurses with this special honor three times a year.
The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died of complications of the auto-immune disorder Idiopathic Thrombocytopenia Pupura (ITP) at the age of 33. During his eight week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care his nurses provided not only to Pat, but to everyone in his family. They established the Daisy Foundation and Award in his memory to recognize extraordinary nurses everywhere. Click here for more information about the DAISY Foundation.
Any registered nurse working within the Mercy Hospital organization may be nominated. This nurse will have made a difference in the lives of the patients entrusted to his/her care. A DAISY Award recipient will exemplify Mercy's Mission and Values.
