If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep throughout the night you may have a sleep disorder. Other symptoms are waking up feeling tired or feeling sleepy during the day even if you think you have had a good night's sleep.
The most common kinds of sleep disorders are:
Insomnia - difficulty falling or staying asleep
Sleep apnea - breathing interruptions during sleep
Restless leg syndrome - a tingling or prickly sensation in the legs
Narcolepsy - uncontrolled, daytime "sleep attacks"
At Mercy, we have doctors who specialize in sleep medicine who are able to detect and treat sleep disorders.
